'Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see,and ask for the old paths, where is the good way,and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls…' Jeremiah 6:16
Oxford Baptist Chapel is a body of baptised believers who have voluntarily gathered themselves together to carry out the Great Commission and to observe the ordinances. We are separatist Baptists and as such desire to follow the biblical and time-proven truths clearly taught in God’s Word.
We desire to make our emphasis the gospel of Jesus Christ. The gospel is the power of God unto salvation and as such must be our primary message. Each Lord’s Day, we have a gospel service where the way of salvation is clearly preached. Our members actively engage with others throughout the week, in letting others know about the life changing power of the gospel.
Our church encourages the reverent worship of God. Holiness is our Lord’s desire for each believer and this should be seen in how we worship. True worship is offered in spirit and in truth. Hymns that express biblical truths and the doctrines of our faith speak to us about the greatness of God and increase our awe of the holiness of the God that we worship. As a church, we seek to avoid trendy modes of worship that come and go, leaving the worshiper emotionally charged, but empty of life changing truth. We have been very encouraged to see a good number seeking a simple and reverent worship service coming to join with us.
The uninterrupted teaching and preaching of God’s word is the method that Scripture endorses for a church to be grounded and settled in the faith. Therefore, we make a special point to give preaching a primary place in each of our church services. Holy Spirit empowered Bible preaching is a necessity for healthy Christian growth and service. The word of God is our only sure foundation on which to build our Christian lives.
We must take every opportunity to reach children and young people with the gospel. A strong emphasis is made on an evangelistic Sunday School and other outreach programs for youth. While hearts are still open to the word of God, we have a great opportunity to reach them with the gospel. A child that has trusted Christ as Saviour is able to grow in Him and will avoid so many sinful habits difficult to overcome in later life. The future of our church and of Christianity in England depends on this investment in the lives of children!
